dANDelion 32.2 Launch Party!

Join dANDelion as it celebrates the release of issue 32.2 with three rocking performances!

When: December 1st, 2006. Doors open at 7pm.

Where: Carpenter's Union Hall 301-10th St. N.W. Kensington.

Who: The evening features a musical performance by the mysterious Jay Coda Walker, as well as readings by the illuminous Weyman Chan and the unparalleled Shane Koyczan.

Admission: $5 gets you entry into the event and and a cash bar will keep you there (not to mention the incredible performers). The latest issue of dANDelion is totally pants, so come on out and rock the launch!

Jay Coda Walker: Learning to play traditional country music with his grandfather, Jay Coda’s distinctive sound has evolved from many influences. His winsome, haunting voice has entertained fans in stadiums, at clubs and festivals. This prolific songwriter has also performed on Nashville’s Grand Ole Oprey Stage and toured North America, opening for artists such as Fred Eaglesmith and America.

Weyman Chan: Living and working in Calgary, AB with his wife and two daughters, Weyman Chan has published poetry and short stories in a variety of literary journals and anthologies. In 2002, he was awarded a silver prize in the poetry category of the National Magazine Awards for his poem "At work." His first collection of poetry, Before a Blue Sky Moon, was published by Frontenac House in 2002.

Shane Koyczan: Born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Shane attended the Creative Writing program at Okanagan University College. He is the first international performer to win the highly coveted Individual Championship title at the National Poetry Slam 2000, making him the only non-American Slam Champion in the history of the competition. His list of awards is extensive, including winner of CBC's National Poetry Face Off, the Leonard Cohen Award for Best Song, the James Elroy Award for Best Voice and the W.B. Yeats Award for Best Poem, all while working in a video store to support his writing habit. Shane has performed with such notables as Maya Angelou, Quincy Troupe, Utah Phillips, sage francis, and has opened for Ani Difranco, Spearhead and Saul Williams.
