Christian Bök is the author of Crystallography (1994), a pataphysical encyclopedia nominated for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, and Eunoia (2001), a bestselling work of experimental literature that won the Griffin Prize for Poetic Excellence. Bök has created artificial languages for two television shows, Gene Roddenberry’s Earth: Final Conflict and Peter Benchley’s Amazon, and has earned many accolades for his virtuoso performances of sound poetry. His conceptual artworks (which include books built out of Rubik’s cubes and Lego bricks) have appeared at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York City as part of the exhibit Poetry Plastique. Bök is currently a Professor of English at the University of Calgary.

Wakefield Performing in a musical capacity since age six and writing for the past 15 years, Wakefield has made his dynamic presence on the scene known with no uncertain terms. Writing in a political yet lyrical voice and performing with an audaciousness yet unseen, he has blasted onto over 300 spoken word stages across Toronto, Canada and the U.S. throughout the past 3 years and can be experienced regularly at Coffeehouse Features and Cabarets, The Art Bar Reading Series, Red Cabaret and other feature readings, poetry slams, sharing stages with bands and fundraisers.

Emily Carr is a new Onion. She moved to Canada about a month ago with her husband, one dog, one cat & too many boxes of books. She's currently working on a PhD in poetics at the U of C, and has published in literary magazines in the US & the UK, including The Exquisite Corpse, Third Coast & Fire. Emily is excited to be in Canada, & is learning to love Calgary, though she's still afraid of the weather & misses her tin-roof back porch & beautiful backyard.

MUSICIAN: The material on Danielle's brand new CD 'Shadows' has been described as "beautiful strangeness"- cruising through the ether, as well as the underworld, with artists such Tori Amos and Tom Waits. On 'Shadows' Danielle enlisted a group of "musical soulmates" to join her on this project including the maddest of madman guitartists Martin Tielli of the Rheostatics. She is pleased to join the Onions for a night of words and music!
