THE READERS:
CANADIAN POET: Weyman Chan he has published 1 book of poetry, Before A Blue Sky Moon (2002), which won the Alberta Poetry Award that year. Weyman’s other book of poetry, A Leaf That Darkens will be published by Talonbooks in Vancouver in spring, 2008. He's currently revising the first draft of a third book of poetry, entitled Rain & Doubt.
SINGLE ONION READER: Leif Baradoy is our newest Onion. Leif performs regularly in Alberta, including at the 2006 Amnesty International Arts Jam and the 2006 South Country Fair. His recent chapbook, The Late Teacher and Other Poems. His work is influenced by the likes of H. D., Eliot, Ginsberg, and Thom Yorke. Leif works as an editor at a small publishing house.
LOCAL POET: Jocelyn Grosse. Her poems have appeared in (orange), filling Station and various chapbooks, and have been performed for Calgary‘s Take Back the Night, International Women‘s Day (with the Raging Grannies), The Comfort Zone (with musician Megan Emmett), The Ross Shameless Promotion of Family and Friends House Concert Series (with Dynarouge‘s Erin Ross and James Dangerous)
MUSICIAN: Juanita Brandt. She's a great singer-songwriter-guitarist. When she sings the songs she's written about those times horse back riding, big skies and a peace that¹s unlike any you find in the city. Were sure you'll get a kick out of her!
THE ART: The Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts will be presenting a very important retrospective exhibition: Beyond Symbolism: Ceramic Sculpture by Jean LaPointe Mihalcheon one of Alberta’s most acclaimed ceramic artists based in Calgary. The exhibition will be featured from February 16 to March 9, 2007.
