Roxfam!

Roxfam at the Marquee room upstairs at the Uptown
612 8th Ave SW
Thursday, March 8, 2007
7-11 pm

The recently revived Calgary chapter of Oxfam Canada is pleased to announce their first awareness raising event Roxfam: Artists in support of women in poverty coinciding with International Women's Day Thursday, March 8.

Women produce 60 percent of all food, run 70 percent of small-scale businesses and make up one third of the official labour force according to Oxfam.ca, yet they own a mere one percent of the world's resources and earn only 1/10th of the world's income. The event hopes to draw awareness to current women's issues while also celebrating some of Calgary's incredible female artists.

The eclectic evening will feature performers and speakers who will be touching on the myriad ways women in poverty are coping under extreme conditions both here and abroad.

Featuring performances by Urban Curvz Theatre, Sheri-D Wilson, Shone Abet and enlightening talks from Louise Gallagher of the Calgary Drop in Centre Society along with Doreen Spence of the Canadian Indigenous Women's Resource Institute..

The night will wrap up with the ambient, piano infused music of Consonant C and the high energy antics of Seven Story Redhead.

This is a non gender specific event and is open to anyone over 18-years-old.

The Marquee Room is located on the second floor of the Uptown Stage and Screen at
612 8th Ave. SW.
