EVENT HISTORY

The Calgary Blow-Out! was founded in 2005 as a celebration of Calgary’s vibrant literary community. The former Managing Editor of filling Station, derek beaulieu, founded the event out of good-natured frustration when he realized there was simply too much happening in the Calgary literary scene to see it all, and so he created the Blow-Out! as a fête for the community at large. This is filling Station’s third annual Calgary Blow-Out!

ABOUT filling Station

filling Station is a literary magazine based in Calgary, Alberta, that is dedicated to showcasing innovative poetry, fiction, drama, film and visual art, and to promotion local and international arts communities. This year’s Calgary Blow-Out! will see the launch of filling Station’s 39th issue.

Eleventh Transmission #13: Summer issue

Hello everyone,

The new issue of Eleventh Tranmission is now online. http://www.eleventhtransmission.org/.

Featured are five great poems about Alberta by Wallace Gagne and a profile on Victoria-based spoken word trio Odditory Presence.

The stars also collided to provide two remarkably different and yet very honest travel writings by Megan Lam and Sara Ness. Megan describes her visit to Turkey and Sara details her experience walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Moe Clark also has a feast at the Folk Festival, and Kirk Ramdath describes his spiritual experience at the South Country Fair.

Dean Hetherington provides his second exclusive comic for Eleventh Transmission, and it's a great one. Calgary's Anne Sorbie writes an engaging story entitled, "Poor, Sad Pears", and you will never guess what the pears are. Or maybe you might. There are also more fabulous poems by Nova Scotia's Sean Howard and also from Kenneth Pobo and David LaBounty.

Mary Ellen Derwis showcases a five-piece photo set titled "Rendezvous" and Jeff Cruz shows us some photos with "Hidden Meanings."

Hamish Crawford decries the current state of television icon, The Simpsons, and Kirk Ramdath provides the first of what will be a new monthly series called, "Songs I Like." Kirk describes why he likes Radiohead's "A Punch Up at a Wedding."

Those of your paying attention will notice that I said monthly. Yes, the magazing is returning to a monthly format with this issue. So look for the next issue September 3. That means you have less time to read all of this one... go now!

http://www.eleventhtransmission.org/.

much love and peace,

Kirk
